Horizon Europe

Horizon Europe is the EU's key funding programme for research and innovation, with a budget of €95.5 billion. The majority of funding schemes target top-class international consortia where partners co-develop ground-breaking technologies that boost the EU’s competitiveness and growth.

Minimum funding ticket size: 0.5 MEUR

EIC Accelerator

EIC Accelerator supports high-risk, high-reward, breakthrough projects pursued by European SMEs with ambitions for fast international growth. Different funding options available: grant first, grant only, blended funding (grant + equity investment). Three-stage application process: Step 1 proposal (continuous submission), Step 2 proposal to defined cut-offs, interview.

Grant: EUR 0.5 to EUR 2.5 million Equity Component: EUR 0.5 to 15 milion

Women TechEU

Women TechEU is a part of the European Innovation Ecosystems work programme of Horizon Europe. Program is directed to women applicants who must have founded or co-founded an early-stage deep-tech start-up, and have to hold a top management position (CEO, CTO, COO or CFO) in the company. The company must be registered and established in an EU Member State or Associated Country for at least six months at the time of the submission.

Individual grant of: EUR 75 000

Eureka

Eureka is the global public network for cooperation in R&D and innovation. It facilitates financing of collaborative R&D projects in a broad variety of fields, including life sciences, ICT, green-tech, and engineering projects. Eureka includes 48 countries in Europe and beyond who provide national funding to organisations who apply through Eureka programmes.

Funding: from EUR 200k per project

Eurostars

Eurostars is the largest international funding programme for SMEs that aim to collaborate on R&D projects that create innovative products, processes or services for commercialisation.  The Eurostars project requires a consortium of at least two partners from two different Eureka network countries.  Partners can include SMEs, large companies, universities, and research centres.

Grant: EUR 500k

EIB funding

EIB offers a broad variety of funding instruments, including loans, venture debt, or guarantees in support of SMEs or mid-caps. EIB targets companies with strong and sustainable business models, professional management team, and established corporate governance. The projects need to support the implementation of European policies and have a clear European dimension.

Large tickets – EUR 7.5M – EUR 50M

EIT Health 

EIT Health manages a number of programs that offer SMEs and start-ups opportunities to learn new skills, connect with venture investors, broaden their industry network, and access new markets. Examples of popular programs include “Investor Network” which connects qualified companies seeking early-stage funding with the first pan-European consortium of more than 80 healthcare investors, or “EIT Health Bootcamps” which runs incubation programs for start-ups.

Life

The LIFE programme is the EU's funding instrument for the environment and climate action. The most interesting offer to businesses is funding to large-scale demonstration projects that pilot new ground-breaking technologies and processes with clear positive environmental impact. Examples of relevant fields include circular economy, waste management, water preservation, etc.

Grant: EUR 3-5 million

Vinnova

Vinnova is Sweden’s innovation agency that funds research and innovation projects that can benefit society. The programs include single applicant funding schemes, as well as funding directed towards value-adding consortia of partners and stakeholders from industrial value chains.

Grant: EUR 0.2-2 million

Swedish Energy Agency

The Swedish Energy Agency supports research and development projects in the fields of supply, conversion, distribution and use of energy. Funding is also provided to development of new green and sustainable technologies and processes.

Grant: EUR 0.4-5 million
